TCC President Larry Rains and Director Bob Alford spent the day at the General Assembly Wed.
April 7, 2009. They attended the Senate Judical Committee Meeting where President Rains
testified concerning upgrading the training for constables in Tennessee. State Rep./Union
County Constable/TCC Vice President Constable Chad Faulkner also testified before the committee.
The Senate Committee voted to roll the bill for a couple of weeks in order to discuss the
bill with their constables. TCC officals talked with many Representatives and Senators
that have become friends over the years. It was learned that two present state
representatives are also serving as constables and that four other representatives
are former constables.

COKER, THE REV. MELVIN "CLYDE" - age 76, member of Hines Creek Baptist Church, went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2007. Clyde was a retired pastor of 45 years, grocery man, and constable of Union County.

The Tennessee Constable Council offers our deepest sympathy to the families of Roane County Deputy Sheriff Bill Jones and ride along Mike Brown. Deputy Jones and friend Mike Brown were gunned down at an apparent roadside ambush on the afternoon of May 11, 2006 while answering a call. Deputy Jones was a true friend to all of us and certified many of us on our weapons each year.
