Judge Don Layton speaks to Tennessee Constables Commission September, 2004
Judge Don A. Layton was a guest speaker at the Tennessee Constable Commission on Sept 14th at the Anderson County Courthouse.
Judge Layton addressed the Constable Commission on "Domestic Violence and the Role of Law Enforcement." Commission Executive Director Ron Langley told Inside Anderson County that he knew Judge Layton well and that his valuable experience in the practice of law and his participation in 1977 Constitutional Convention will provide valuable input for the Constables. Langley stated, " I respect Judge Don Layton. I asked him to speak to the East and Middle Tennessee Constables and he agreed. His first hand knowledge should prove to be invaluable regarding the changes in state law that have taken place over the years."
Judge Layton was elected to be Anderson County General Sessions Judge without opposition in August of 1998 after practicing criminal and civil law for eighteen years before serving as Clerk and Master for seven years. Judge Layton is a graduate of the National Judicial College, Advanced Special Jurisdiction Training, and Tennessee Leadership in Judicial Education. Judge Layton has been an instructor at Roane State Community College since 1998. In 1996, while serving as Clerk and Master he was selected as the Most Outstanding Court Clerk for the state of Tennessee.
Judge Layton told Inside Anderson County that he was delighted to speak to the Constables Commission. "I am delighted to have the opportunity to speak to the Tennessee Constable Commission on the topic of Domestic Violence and the role of Law Enforcement. I admire the Constables willingness to learn more about the legal system, and their desire to serve in a greater capacity within that system," said Judge Layton.
The Tennessee Constable Commission was Incorporated in November of 2003 and approved by the Tennessee Legislature in July of 2004 by a vote of 92-0. Anderson County Constable Ron Langley is the Executive Director of the organization. |
